We all have our little worlds in our life. This world is like a stage at the centre of which we stand. And in the little parts of our little world we play different roles. We behave differently when in school, different at home, different with relatives, different at work. I won’t mention neither the bizarre roles some of you might play when online nor the insecurities which make up our roles. The script we are going to read here is of careers we choose.
When living on the blurred line of youth and adulthood we are faced with the choosing of what we are gonna do in life. The career we choose is very much like how actors choose their roles. The role you undertake is entirely up to you and how you will live up to it. However there are indicators which help you choose from the many roles you might have. It is the boring subject of life values. Don’t worry, I’ll make it interesting.
Honestly speaking when we are born we don’t have much of a character. All babies look same and most that comes out of mouth is boo boo. But as we grow and are raised there are values added in us. Some are imposed, some nurtured. Some we develop ourselves through experiences. They largely depend upon the environment, people we live with, the lifestyle we follow. These values make up our beliefs of right and wrong. Like if you were a devout Christian then you would consider Hugh Hefner’s work preposterous. The values we have and things or matters we give importance to directly reflect in our career choices.
Our values and our expectations corresponding to them can change over time. We all wanted to be saviour of justice or something stupid when we were small. Those were the days but then we grew up and matured. Still the values of earnestness may be carried through. Similarly values of masses changes as well. One of these changes is still happening. In past almost everywhere working women were looked down upon, not supported. Over the years that belief has changed and is still changing. Meaning values of society you live in directly affects you as well. There are certain conventions which don’t allow some career options.
These values also have partitions. Like life values and work values. What you expect from life is different from what you expect from work. Though they are related. You would like an honest, hardworking job but may desire to have leisure in private life.
All in all, it’s like this. When you are confused and don’t know what to do for career, look into yourself and find these values. Think about what values your work should have. And choose not what suits you best but what you desire to do. What role you choose to play in theater of life is entirely up to you. But like said in zootopia: ” You can be anything you want to be.”
